Customer conversations

Chat live, right on your website.

Visitors type a question into a small chat window on your site, and your business answers in real time. No phone call, text message, or email is needed on either side, and the visitor never has to leave the page.

This page explains the service. It does not turn on a chat window for any website. Chat hours, who answers, offline handling, and privacy notices are agreed before anything goes live.

How it works

Simple for customers.
Practical for your team.

For customers and visitors

  • Tap the chat bubble in the corner of the website and type a message.
  • No app to download, no account to create, and no phone number or email address needed to start.
  • Replies appear in the same window, in real time, on a phone or a computer.
  • Keep browsing: the conversation can follow the visitor from page to page.
  • Share a link or a quick detail without switching to another app.

For businesses

  • See new messages as they arrive and reply while the customer is still on the site.
  • Show when someone is available, with an online or away status.
  • Greet visitors with a short welcome message that fits your business.
  • Get a notification when a new message comes in.
  • Decide what happens when nobody is available, such as leaving a message for follow-up.
What a setup can include

Built around how you answer.

01

Your look and words

A chat bubble, label, greeting, and photo or icon that match your website and how you talk to customers.

02

Hours and availability

An online or away status, plus a clear message for when nobody is available to answer.

03

A follow-up path

When a visitor wants a reply later, they can choose to leave a way to reach them, with consent.

04

Who answers

Agree on who replies, from which device, and how conversations are handed off inside the business.

05

Activity signals

Paired with the KAPS tracker, see approximately when visitors are on the site so you are ready to answer.

How it compares

Live web chat vs. calling, texting, and email.

Live web chat

  • Starts on the page the visitor is already reading.
  • No phone number or email address needed to begin.
  • Back-and-forth happens in real time when someone is available.
  • Easy to ask a quick question while comparing options.

Phone call

  • Real-time and personal, but the visitor has to call during open hours.
  • Harder when the visitor is at work, in public, or prefers not to talk.
  • Details like links or model numbers are harder to share by voice.

Text message

  • Convenient, but the visitor has to share a cell phone number first.
  • Usually moves the conversation off the website.
  • Business texting has consent and opt-out rules to follow.

Email

  • Good for longer details and documents.
  • The visitor has to share an email address and wait for a reply.
  • Back-and-forth is usually slower than a live conversation.

Many businesses offer several of these. Live web chat adds a quick, low-effort option for visitors who have a question right now and do not want to call, text, or email.

Options on the market

Ways businesses add live chat.

Kaps Live Web Chat

Live Web Chat is its own KAPS tool. It is turned on through the KAPS tracker already used on KAPS-managed websites, so no extra code is needed. It can show online or away status, a greeting, real-time replies, and a follow-up option when nobody answers. We confirm what fits your site before turning anything on.

Standalone chat services

Services such as tawk.to, Tidio, LiveChat, PureChat, and Zendesk add a chat widget through a small code snippet. Depending on the plan, they offer team inboxes, desktop and mobile apps for answering, saved replies, chat history, file sharing, chatbots, and integrations. We can review a tool you already use or help compare options.

Live people vs. chatbots

Live chat means a person from your business answers. Chatbots and AI assistants reply automatically to common questions. Some businesses combine both, with a clear handoff to a person. See AI-Agent for automated help with human review.

Chat on social and messaging apps

Some chat tools also collect messages from social media inboxes in one place. That can help, but those conversations happen in the social app, not on your website.

Before we begin

Do customers need an app or an account to chat?

No. Live web chat runs in the web browser on a phone or computer. Visitors tap the chat bubble and type.

Do customers have to give a phone number or email address?

Not to start chatting. A visitor may choose to share contact details if they want a follow-up later.

What happens when nobody is available?

The chat can show an away status and a clear message, and offer a way to leave a request for follow-up. Hours and offline handling are set up with you before launch.

Is live chat the same as a chatbot?

No. Live chat means a person replies. Automated replies or an AI assistant can be added separately, with clear limits and a handoff to a person.

Can my team answer from a phone?

That depends on the chat tool. Many tools offer mobile apps or a mobile-friendly dashboard. We confirm how and where your team will answer during setup.

What about privacy?

Chat conversations are stored by the chat tool. Discuss notices, consent, how long conversations are kept, and who can see them before installation.

What will it cost?

Setup and ongoing chat management are quoted after reviewing your needs. No fixed price or included feature list is promised by this page.
